Welcome to Heathfield School's Cafe Paramo Blog

Think fair: Be fair: Buy fair

This unique project has Heathfield School firmly linked to a community in Ecuador, South America. This gourmet Ecuadorian coffee is grown on the high, lush slopes of the Podocarpus National Park, where the Amazon meets the Andes.

Heathfield School is proud to have developed a close relationship with the Caxarumi co-operative, a small scale co-operative of only 60 farmers who, through this special project will receive more than the fair trade premium for every packet sold. £1 from every packet goes directly back to the coffee grower’s children’s school called Auslestis Bravo. These proceeds have helped to fund school equipment like white boards and chairs, kitchen appliances like cookers and drinking water tanks, materials for environmental education like seeds and finally materials for artistic skills like puzzle games and paints. The parents of the children are receiving a fair price for their coffee and as a result the children are receiving an education.

Students at Heathfield School have produced all of the labels for the coffee and the art work you see is all their own work. Graphics students then put the labels together to create a unique, insightful and well thought out label. We are now starting to communicate with the students on our International Links blog page and hope to proceed with reciprocal visits in the near future. We are committed to this project for the long term.

This all means that you can enjoy the rich, mellow taste of this delicious coffee whilst knowing you are making a difference to a coffee grower and their family’s future.
